Clare and Richard fell in love with and bought Chez Touvenot in 2009 after deciding there was more to life than driving around the M25. They have never looked back.
The house is an 18th Century winery which was restored by the previous owners in 2001. It is set on the edge of the pretty little village of Nieul le Virouil in the heart of the French vine-growing region of the Charente-Maritime. The gite is large, cool in the summer, and is kitted out with a host of modern conveniences. Its living area, bedrooms and bathrooms are particularly spacious, making for a very comfortable and relaxing holiday. Outside there is a private 41 metre long private garden, and a private, solar heated swimming pool which looks out on to the orchard at the end of the garden and then the beautiful countryside beyond.
Chez Touvenot is a perfect holiday base for families and friends alike. It is a peaceful haven for those who wish to chill out by the pool or take in the local countryside. However, it is also well located for visiting beautiful unspoilt beaches, vineyards, and dining in some fine local restaurants. A myriad of activities can be found just a short distance away, including the historic towns of Cognac, Pons, Saintes and Bordeaux. There are several fishing lakes, four golf courses and many opportunities for walking and cycling nearby.
Here is what some of our guests have had to say about their stay at our beautiful Charente-Maritime gite:
“A wonderful stay. Everything was perfect and we have made wonderful friends in Richard and Clare. Thank you for a most memorable holiday”, The Tolls, Melbourne, Australia
“What a fab place to spend a holiday. Beautiful, lazy days by the pool and other busy days visiting!… Look forward to coming again next summer, and we will all miss Marley, too!”, The Croucher Family, Netherlands
“We all had a great holiday with lots to do, swimming pool, the games room and the woods meant that the kids slept well indeed. We will gladly recommend you to our friends, your gite and welcome basket was just what we needed to feel special on our holiday”, Teresa & Pat, Leicestershire, UK
